Chapter 21

Image
Bob indeed had begun to panic. The heat was now on between he and Negan like there never had been before. He shouldn’t have frozen the way that he had . He should have just taken the extra shots when he had failed. He had panicked because of their reactions. Their screams had been unearthly, haunting and unreal. It had him frozen. He had sworn that he had seen fangs on them both. Those canines weren’t normal. Had he been seeing things? He didn’t know because he certainly had heard their cries and those were unmistakable. Even the animals had taken flight. What was quiet moments before, the woods seemed to have come alive in its own panic once Officer Howlett dropped to his knees in an injured scream. Negan would know who had done it too. There would be no guessing game. He should have just shot him dead but he didn’t. He now regretted it.  Once Negan had led Officer Howlett out of the woods, Bob was on the hustle. He had to get his stand out of the tree and to erase any trace that he

Negan knew in that moment as they broke from the tree line that Burbon City was a good four hour drive from Canton and that Cash’s ex wasn’t just going away that night. He also knew that The Mackey’s most certainly were coming back. They were probably in a panic right now devising a plan but they would be back for Cash for sure. They absolutely could not stay there at the cabin any longer then they had to and they certainly didn’t have time for Cash and his ex to have it out. He had real strong inclination that Miranda was not going to handle this news of Cash being gay in the same fashion as when he told Emily about himself. They didn’t have time for that discussion and any extra amount of time spent there could potentially put them all in danger. It was made clear now more so than ever that Bob had an intent to kill. Negan knew that he was now morally responsible for Miranda and ground his teeth so hard that it sounded like he had a mouth full of dirt. Cash heard it and went to speak

Miranda’s drive to Canton had been a long and exhausting one down from the city. When she had finally reached city limits relief had settled in. Cash was now close and she was fully confident that he’d take her back, forgive her of her affair as well as forgive her for the ugly and messy divorce that she had put him threw. While Cash was indeed a very strong man, he was also very soft inside to the point of being just as, if not more sensitive than a woman. Miranda knew just how to play that to her advantage. He had begged her for marriage counseling. He had pleaded to end the divorce process and that he’d do anything to fix what was broken. She let him take the heat of his guilt thinking it was because he was an extremely busy detective. She had this here in the bag. As her GPS had taken her threw town, she wasn’t all too crazy about the idea of small town life. There were no designer shops of any sort that she could see but she doubted it anyway by the vehicles on the road or the a

Cash and Negan hadn’t been the only ones interested in the deer run along the rivers edge. Bob Mackey had been hunting out of that tree with his bow for many years. He too found the thrill in the hunt and victory in a fresh kill. His honey hole had never served him wrong. He had always pulled a trophy or two in a season from that blind regardless if that tree belonged to him or not and it wasn’t. That tree now belonged to Cash. It was a very long time ago when he had received permission from the previous land owner but that owner had been long dead, gone and forgotten. Since that old cabin sat empty Bob continued to claim that property as his own. It didn’t stop him because after all, he owned most of Canton as it was either directly or indirectly. He knew that Officer Howlett had made it into town but not for one moment had he figured that he had purchased the cabin and all its acreage that came along with it. He hadn’t figured it because for one, Officer Howlett was an implant from

It was from the knock on the door till the cusp of the dinner hour that had Negan contained. He hadn’t had a free moment to speak of for a phone call. While he conducted his business in the back of his mind was how he needed to call Cash to thank him for the roses. The more time that had passed the more Negan knew that Cash was doubting himself. He knew what that looked like in Cash’s eyes and he could feel it. There hadn't been time to thank him and now it was well past the time to invite him to dinner much less to ask Minerva to prepare something impressive and romantic. It was nights like this when his business ran long that called for Chinese take out and he sure in hell wasn’t inviting Cash to his house for the first time to have him eat out of a box.  Cash at first had felt the rushing excitement of sending Negan that arrangement of roses. He had felt real good about it as well as enjoyed the anticipation of receiving that phone call and hearing that deep scratchy voice that

Negan had entered his kitchen having over heard his staff being unusually excited over something. He had had a long night and even though he now felt fully restored physically, his mind was wrecked and he just wanted things to be quiet. He knew that two things had to happen. One, he needed to make it very clear to Cash that he needed to go along with what his chief had planned for him because defending him would only put himself in danger. He knew that Cash could handle his own but there was also serious power in numbers and with Cash living out in the middle of the woods made him a sitting duck and such an easy target. The Mackey’s would kill him without a second thought and the chief would undoubtedly look the other way. He was not willing to risk Caah’s life. Cash had already proven himself now twice to him and that’s all that mattered. The second thing that needed to be stopped before it could even begin was any sort of relationship between them both. Being friends was also now o

Mornings always came extra early for Tony and Minerva. There was breakfast to be made and delivered, cleaned up after as well as the pressing of suits and arrangements of schedules. So while most of the world were just getting up for their day, Tony and Minerva had found their morning break time. By the time that Tony had returned from laying out their boss’s suit and making up his bed while he showered, Minerva had the kitchen cleaned up and was beginning to set out Fall and Halloween decorations. “How is Negan this morning?” She asked as Tony headed for the coffee pot. She knew that he had skipped his morning run and hadn’t eaten much of his breakfast aside from his toast and the cup of fresh fruit. She had been with The Coldwell’s for many years. She had hired on when Negan’s parents, Nic and Nora had their third son, Nox. Negan had been just a boy then. She had originally signed on as the three boys nanny but as the boys grew she had become less of a nanny and more of a right han
